Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Two men ("Rayburn" and "Sen. Russell") are speaking to a seated LBJ. Rayburn shows LBJ a report ("Presidency Less Risky Than Other Position, for Heart Patient Ike's Doctors Believe") and says "Lyndon, you gotta run!! Think of your health, man!". Russell holds a "Johnson for President" sign and a newspaper that reads "Daily Paper Kefauver takes Minnesota." Caption reads: "Clinching the Argument". Artist signature lower left: "Shaw McCutcheon."

Historical NoteSenator Lyndon Johnson ran for president in 1956, but lost the nomination. Senator Johnson had a heart attack on July 2, 1955.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
