Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. The Cheshire Cat from Alice and Wonderland with the head of LBJ sits in a tree. The Queen with the face of Dwight Eisenhower watches the Mad Hatter (identifiable as Barry Goldwater) create a mess ("GOP Discord") with other Alice and Wonderland characters with the faces of Richard Nixon, a man (identifiable as Nelson Rockefeller) and another man. Historical NoteDuring the 1964 election cycle, the Democratic Party was mostly united under Lyndon B. Johnson. Meanwhile, since Richard Nixon decided not to run in 1964, the Republican Party was divided between the conservative Barry Goldwater and liberal Nelson Rockefeller.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
