Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A bird with the face of LBJ looks angrily at a woodpecker (identifiable as Bobby Kennedy) from a tree trunk. A glum bird (identifiable as Robert McNamara) sits on a nest holding bombs. Two baby birds (with Navy and Air Force markings) squawk. Caption: “With Birds”. Artist signature lower right: "Corcoran”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: “29”. Handwritten at lower center: “2 col - Eve. Sun Fri”. Handwritten at lower center: “To” [illegible] “Emmerich”.
Historical NoteRobert F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson each represented a different side to the Democratic Party in the 1960s. Robert Kennedy was the Attorney General under his brother’s administration and became a New York senator during Johnson’s presidency. He disagreed with Johnson’s Vietnam policy and became a prominent war critic. Robert McNamara was the Secretary of Defense.
