Historical NoteThe Housing and Urban Development Act of 1965 expanded funding for federal housing, gave rent subsidies to elderly and disabled people, helped veterans get mortgages, and funded low-income housing, water and sewer facilitates, community centers, and beautification. Also in 1965, Johnson created the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Everett Dirksen was the Senate Minority Leader when this cartoon was made.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
