Historical NotePresident Johnson was up for his second term during the 1968 election, but he would later withdraw from the race on March 31, 1968. In November 1967, when this cartoon was made, Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy announced his candidacy as an antiwar Democrat and both Richard Nixon and Michigan Governor George Romney were thought to be running.
