Historical NoteIn April 1968, when this cartoon was made, Lyndon B. Johnson had just withdrawn from the Democratic primaries on March 31. Antiwar Senator Eugene McCarthy won Wisconsin on April 2 and Robert F. Kennedy had entered the race on March 16. On April 27, Hubert Humphrey entered the race. Although Humphrey secured the Democratic nomination, his association with Lyndon Johnson and the Vietnam War split the Democratic Party and hurt his campaign.
