Historical NoteSenator Wayne Morse of Oregon was a Democratic senator and one of only two senators that did not sign the Gulf of Tonkin resolution in 1964. J. William Fulbright was a Democratic senator from Arkansas. He was the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and supported detente policies. Robert F. Kennedy was a senator from New York that spoke against Johnson's Vietnam policy. Mike Mansfield was the Senate Majority Leader while Johnson was president, and he opposed Operation Rolling Thunder. Mansfield, Kennedy, Morse, and Fulbright were prominent critics of the Johnson administration’s Vietnam policy.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
