Historical NoteIn August 1965, there was a rumored rift between President Johnson and former President Eisenhower over the origins of American involvement in Vietnam. However, Johnson assured the media that there was no disagreement in the policies of Eisenhower and himself.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
