Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ sits behind a desk and holds a sign (“U.S. Tourism”) while speaking to a man with luggage. Around him are many posters (“Britain Now that Devaluation is Here”, “Discover the Continent”, “Sample the Exotic Orient”, and “Visit Gay Paree”). Caption: “See the U.S.A. As You Pay”. Artist signature lower right: "Graham”.

Historical NotePresident Johnson announced plans for a travel tax which would tax Americans traveling outside the Western hemisphere. However, this was shelved in March 1968 by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
