Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ pours a can ("Wax") into the ear of a man ("U.S. Tourist") and says, “See America First!”. Another man stands next to him. A man (identifiable as Charles de Gaulle) beckons the tourist toward the Eiffel Tower. Caption: “How You Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm?”. Artist signature lower right: "B. Green”.

Historical NotePresident Johnson announced plans for a travel tax which would tax Americans traveling outside the Western hemisphere. However, this was shelved in March 1968 by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
