Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Standing on the shore (“U.S.”), LBJ reaches up to catch a baseball ("US Tourist Dollars") as it flies overhead toward another shore ("Abroad”). Artist signature lower right: "Hungerford".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: “483”. Handwritten at lower center: “3 col Thursday Bulldog”.
Historical NotePresident Johnson announced plans for a travel tax which would tax Americans traveling outside the Western hemisphere. However, this was shelved in March 1968 by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
