Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is surrounded by signs (“See the Western Hemisphere, First”, “Stop the World Travel…I’ll Tell You Where to Get Off”, “There’s No Place Like Home”, and “Yankee Stay Home”) and looks at a paper ("Less Foreign Investments…Reduced Loans Abroad…Increase Exports…Etc.”). A bag of money ("$ Billions in U.S. Balance of Payments Deficit") stands before him and holds a suitcase with stickers (“Paris” and “Rome”). Caption: “LBJ Travel Agency”. Additional text at lower right: “New Orleans Times-Picayune, Jan. 3, 1968”. Artist signature lower right: "Pletcher”.

Historical NotePresident Johnson announced plans for a travel tax which would tax Americans traveling outside the Western hemisphere. However, this was shelved in March 1968 by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
