Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Uncle Sam is completely wrapped up in tape ("Selective Service"). He discovers a large pair of scissors ("Draft by Lottery") hanging on the wall. Caption: “This Should Be the Answer”. Artist signature lower right: "Warren King”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: [blue] “Wed March 22 - 67”.
Historical NoteAbout one-third of American soldiers that fought in Vietnam were drafted. Many men avoided the draft through college deferments and family connections, so it disproportionately affected men from poorer backgrounds. The draft lottery would eventually replace it in 1969.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
