Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A woman holding a sign ("Make Love") speaks to a man holding a sign ("Down with Everything Else!"). The woman says, "LBJ wants to lower the voting age to 18.". The man answers, "Yeah, so we can have full and responsible participation in our American democracy.". Caption: “Making the Scene”. Artist signature lower right: "Warren King”.

Historical NoteOne criticism of the draft was that 18-year-olds could be drafted, despite voting age being 21. The Twenty-Sixth Amendment was passed in 1971 and lowered the voting age to 18.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
