Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man (“Sen. Mansfield", "Administration Push for 14-B Repeal") is being rushed into an emergency room on a stretcher. LBJ stands nearby in his pajamas and robe. Both angrily yell and point a finger at each other. Caption: “You Picked a #*!!&! Time to Get Sick!”. Artist signature lower left: "Bob Taylor”.
Historical NoteOn October 8, 1965, President Johnson underwent gallbladder surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital. The Democrat Mike Mansfield was the Senate Majority Leader. In 1965, President Johnson tried to end right-to-work laws in nineteen states, which would have resulted in the repeal of 14(b) of the Taft-Hartley Act. Right-to-work laws allow workers to choose not to join unions.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
