Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Engineer LBJ stands ready to pull a freight car marked with stickers ("urgent”, “fragile”, “explosive", “inflammable”, “this end up”, “return to point of origin”, “do not hump”, “rush”, “perishable”) with a handcar ("Li'l Stopcap"). Yelling and waving a lantern, a man ("Tardy Congress") hands him a paper ("11th Hour No-Strike Bill"). Caption: “Here Y'are--Now Highball It!”. Artist signature lower right: "Ralph Vinson”.

Historical NoteIn April 1964, President Johnson ended a 5-year dispute over railroad industry, giving a raise to about half of the workers in the union as well as other benefits and averting a strike.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
