Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ jumps across the ocean from one country (“Philippines”) to another (“Vietnam”). He smiles broadly and extends his right hand ("For GIs") while he carries a briefcase in his left hand. Two notes ("Popularity Polls", "November Election") are in the background. Caption: “A Step He Couldn't Miss!”. Artist signature lower right: "Hungerford”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across the center: [erased] “3 col Thursday” [illegible].
Historical NoteIn October-November 1966, Lyndon Johnson took a state trip to countries in Asia and the Pacific, including New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, South Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and South Korea. While in South Vietnam, he visited American soldiers deployed at Cam Ranh Bay.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
