Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, and two men ("Bobby" and a man identifiable as J. William Fulbright) throw horseshoes at a stake ("Vietnam"). Two horseshoes (“Kennedy position”, “Fulbright views”) have missed the stake, but LBJ's horseshoe ("Johnson Policies") is a ringer. A small piece of paper “The Hartford Times” adhered to lower left. Artist signature lower left: "Ed Valtman ‘67”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper right: [underline] “March 24”. Handwritten at upper right: “‘67”.
Historical NoteAnti-war “doves” included both people who opposed the war ideologically, considering it to be unjust, and people who just believed the war was unwinnable. The number of doves increased over the course of the war. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman J. William Fulbright and New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy both opposed the Vietnam War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
