Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A military officer washes his laundry ("Win the War Bombing") in a large tub with the face of LBJ. Another officer hangs one small item on the line. Caption: “Been Tough Getting Wash on the Line!”. Artist signature lower right: "Sandeson".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "For President Johnson - with best wishes - Bill Sandeson".
Historical NoteRichard Nixon won the 1968 presidential election. On January 20, 1969, he was inaugurated as president and Lyndon Johnson left office. Nixon inherited the Vietnam War and its peace talks. J. William Fulbright was a Democratic senator from Arkansas. He was the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and supported detente policies. He became one of the loudest critics of the Johnson administration’s Vietnam policy.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
