Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and another man (“Mao”) sit in a boxing ring ("Vietnam Fight Ring"). LBJ wears boxing gloves (“700 Million Dollars") with a note next to them ("Congress Approved Gloves”). He says "Ready to talk peace?". Mao wears hammer-and-sickle gloves. A man (identifiable as Ho Chi Minh) looks from the sidelines. Caption: “One, Two, Knockout Punch?”. Artist signature lower right: "Shevchik”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: “am”.
Historical NoteDuring the Johnson administration, US officials continued to refuse to recognize the People’s Republic of China in favor of Taiwan and did not allow the PRC on the UN Security Council. Meanwhile, China militarily supported North Vietnam in the war. The United States ensured that it would not want a war with China, but also remained steadfast in its position on Vietnam.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
