Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A woman ("UN") with an olive branch ("Viet Peace Try") descends rapidly in a parachute toward the globe ("The World [Escalation Projection]). Bombs are falling all around. A man in the lower right has wings and a suit (“Lead suit”) while an atom floats over his head. Caption: “Before There Isn't Anybody Left to Negotiate!”. Artist signature lower right: "Yardley”.

Historical NoteNorth Vietnam did not want to recognize the government of South Vietnam and had the goal of reunification, while South Vietnam did not recognize the National Liberation Front. Meanwhile, the United States followed Containment policy, hoping to keep Communism from diffusing to other Southeast Asian nations, and aimed to leave Vietnam without the humiliation of defeat.
