Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionHorse effigy urn. Body comprises two connected spheres. The small head emerges from a tapered neck from one sphere, which also has a very short spout in front. There is a tall flared opening at the front of the other sphere that is connected to one end of a handle that apparently is also the horse's tail. An additional smaller handle is attached to the horse's mouth. The urn is made of a light-colored clay with some dark markings.
Historical NoteThis urn was a gift from Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, Shahanshah of Iran, from when he visited Washington D. C. on June 11, 1968. Iranians have celebrated the horse in thier history and culture since ancient times.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
