Physical DescriptionSingle sheet cardboard, 1 vertical fold. A train (“Lady Bird Special”) runs on the tracks with a large crowd of passengers. Additional text at upper center: “Welcome”. Artist signature lower right: “Peggy Neitsch”.
Historical NoteLady Bird played a major role in the 1964 Presidential campaign, and was the first First Lady to campaign without her husband. In a four-day, 1,628-mile campaign trip aboard a train dubbed the Lady Bird Special, she traveled through eight southern states that were in such racial turmoil it had been deemed unsafe for President Johnson to go there himself.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the LBJ Presidential Library in 1970.
