Dwight David Eisenhower (1890-1969) was leader of the Allied forces in Europe in World War II, commander of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), and the thirty-fourth president of the United States, from January 20, 1953, to January 20, 1961. He worked at the creamery for two years before attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. There he earned the nickname "Ike." He graduated from West Point in 1915. While stationed in San Antonio, Texas he met Mamie Doud, whom he married on July 1, 1916.
