Van Cliburn

United States, 1934 - 2013
Harvey "Van" Cliburn was an internationally acclaimed pianist from America. In 1958, Cliburn won the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and was the first musician to receive an ticker-tape parade upon his return to New York City. Cliburn won various distinctions throughout his career, including Kennedy Center Honors, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Russia's Order of Friendship, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the National Medal of Arts from the United States.
