Sam Houston

He was a central figure in the Texas rebellion against Mexico. The first president of the Republic of Texas, he also led the Texas Army to victory against Mexican troops at the Battle of San Jacinto which was the decisive battle of Texans’ war against Mexico. After Texas became a state, he represented it in the United States Senate. He was also governor of Texas. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives and as governor of Tennessee. He is the only individual to have served as governor of two states in the United States.
