Stephen Fuller Austin

United States, 1793 - 1836
Stephen F. Austin, known as the "Father of Texas," led the second colonization of the region by bringing 300 families and their slaves from the United States to the "Tejas" region in 1825. After losing the 1836 Texas Presidential election to Sam Houston, Austin became the fourth Secretary of State of Texas.
