The Philippines, 1917 - 1989
Marcos was a Filipino politician and kleptocrat who served as the tenth president of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. A controversial figure, he ruled the country as a dictator, imposing martial law from 1972 to 1981. His regime was infamous for its extravagance, corruption and brutality.
