Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr. enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953 and went on to become a test pilot and flight instructor. Conrad joined NASA in 1962 as a pilot for Gemini 5 (1965) and as a command pilot for Gemini 11 (1966), Apollo 12 (1969), and Skylab 2 (1973).
