Historical NoteIn 1960, Johnson ran for the Democratic nomination for president. When the Democratic front-runner and fellow senator John F. Kennedy offered Johnson the VP spot on the ticket, the two men compromised and the Kennedy-Johnson ticket won in the 1960 presidential election.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
