Physical DescriptionPrint reproduction of cartoon drawing. German clipping. A man (identifiable as Mao Tse-tung) and two other men bring books (“Mao” and “Marx”). In the background a man (identifiable as Nikita Khrushchev) brings a string of rubels and LBJ brings money (“$”). A small piece of paper “3.I.64.(B)” adhered to lower right. Artist signature lower right: “Jüsp”.
Historical NoteDuring the 1960s, China supported revolutionary groups around the world against colonial and conservative governments. This made the United States government nervous about Domino Theory and the Sino-Soviet split created tensions between the Soviet Union and China.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
