Physical DescriptionPrint reproduction of cartoon drawing. German clipping. LBJ and another man (identifiable as Ludwig Erhard) sit talking. Erhard says, “Ich sehe, Mr. President, daß auch Sie die Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands im Interesse des Friedens sehr ernst nehmen. [I see, Mr. President, that you too take the reunification of Germany very seriously in the interests of peace]”. LBJ answers, “Why certainly! Es wird sein sehr wichtig im Interesse des Friedens, daß Deutschland, nach Wiedervereinigung, wird Frieden halten! [It will be very important in the interest of peace that Germany will keep peace after reunification]”. A small piece of paper “22.I.64.(N)” adhered to lower right. Caption: “Kleine Mißverständnis [Little Misunderstanding]”. Artist signature lower right: “Liedel”.
Historical NoteIn December 1963, West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard visited the LBJ Ranch on a state visit.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
