Physical DescriptionPrint reproduction of cartoon drawing. German clipping. LBJ rides a horse and looks across water. The men on the other side of the water hold a banner with the face of a man (identifiable as Fidel Castro) and carry guns. Two ships are in the water. A small piece of paper “25.I.64.(T)” adhered to lower right. Caption: “Swchwierige Hürde für den Hindernisreiter aus Texas [Difficult Obstacles for the Barrier Rider from Texas]”. Additional text at lower right: “Zeichnung Albert Altorfer”. Artist signature lower left: “Aeri”.
Historical NoteIn 1962, President Kennedy placed a full embargo on Cuba, while President Johnson later tried to get other American countries to join in on the embargo. Meanwhile, many European countries continued to trade with Cuba.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
