Physical DescriptionPrint reproduction of cartoon drawing. German clipping. A man (identifiable as Mao Tse-tung) and another man use a battering ram (identifiable as Charles de Gaulles) to open the door (“Eingang zu den Vereinten Nationen [Entrance to the United Nations]”) while a shocked LBJ (“US-Präsident”) looks through the window from inside. A small piece of paper “29.I.64.(S)” adhered to lower right. Caption: “Rammbock de Gaulle [Ram de Gaulle]”.
Historical NoteDuring the Johnson administration, US officials continued to refuse to recognize the People’s Republic of China in favor of Taiwan and did not allow the PRC on the UN Security Council. In January 1964, France officially recognized the PRC.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
