Physical DescriptionPrint reproduction of cartoon drawing. German clipping. Many politicians attend a party. Decorations (“Narrisches Bonn [Foolish Bonn]”) hang in the background. LBJ and another man sit on pedestals and a group of men dance (“Contertanz [Counter dance]”) in front of them. A man (“Kanzle Kandidat [Chancellor Candidate]”) with a top hat (“Maske in [strikethrough] Rot Blau [Mask in [strikethrough] Red Blue]” “Alter Hut [Old Hat]”) has many ribbons (“1961”, “1965”, “1969”, and “1974”). Another man wearing roller skates carries a sprayer (“All-Round Sprayer” “Optimismus [Optimism]”). A woman and man sit at a table and the woman notices another man under her chair (“Fibag-akten-sucher”). Historical NoteDuring the Johnson administration and general postwar era, much foreign policy was dictated by the Cold War, the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union for political influence amidst decolonization, associated with proxy wars, ideological struggles, the nuclear arms race, and the space race.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
