Physical DescriptionPrint reproduction of cartoon drawing. German clipping. LBJ opens the door to a store (“Johnson Ausland Hilfe Foreign Aid”). There are signs (“No Cubans allowed” and (“Kein Verkauf an Cubaner [No sales to Cubans]”) on the door and on the window. He looks at a man (identifiable as Fidel Castro) trading with three other men (identifiable as Sir Alec Douglas-Home, Charles de Gaulle, and Nikita Khrushchev). A small piece of paper “28.II.64.(B)” adhered to lower right. Artist signature lower left: “Jüsp”.
Historical NoteIn 1962, President Kennedy placed a full embargo on Cuba, while President Johnson later tried to get other American countries to join in on the embargo. Meanwhile, many European countries continued to trade with Cuba.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
