Physical DescriptionPhotographic portrait of Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, President of Mexico. Color with white mat. This date is a month after the photograph was given. Enclosed in (B) silver frame. Green plush back. Artist signature at lower left: [illegible].
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten on white mat at lower left: "Para su Excelencia Lyndon B. Johnson Presidente de los Estado Unidos de Norteamerica con Mis Mas Cledas y Mejores Deseos. Mexico a 15 de May de 1966". [Translation: “For His Excellency Lyndon B. Johnson President of the United States of North America with my warmest and best wishes Mexico May 15, 1966"]. Stamped: “Silver” “Hecho en Mexico DF" and two hallmarks.
Historical NoteMexican President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz gave Lyndon Johnson this photograph when Johnson visited Mexico City on April 14-15, 1966 for the Lincoln Declaration, the dediction of a statue in a park named after Abraham Lincoln.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
