Physical Description
Physical DescriptionBracelet. Four silver links with tiger-eye cabochons. Each hinged link is solid and one-quarter of a circle in cross-section. A domed tiger-eye is set in the center of each link. The edges of each section are shaped; the surface of each is decorated with twisted wire, granulation and Maltese crosses. The clasp consists of a bar that extends through two loops on one end of the bracelet and on one loop at the other end. Stamped on the reverse of one link: "Bethlehem / Jordan / HJA / Silver / 935."
Historical NoteThis tiger’s eye quartz and silver bracelet was given the Johnson family by His Majesty Hussein I, King of the Hashemite, Kingdom of Jordan during an official visit to the White House on April 14, 1964. In some cultures, the “cat’s eye effect” of a gemstone is believed to ward off the evil eye.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to the President, First Lady or member of the First Family during President Johnson's term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 20, 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
