Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionTeardrop-shaped aquamarine in an open setting of white gold wire. Above the narrow end of the stone is an array of 5 brilliant-cut diamonds in a group with 4 baguette diamonds set at angles; descends on either side as ribbons of white gold set with 9 diamonds. Fastens with two pins with loops for optional hanging as a pendant.
Historical NoteThis aquamarine brooch/pendant was given to Lady Bird Johnson by His Excellency Artur da Costa e Silva, President-elect of the Republic of Brazil on January 31, 1967, during an informal visit to Washington, D.C. Large deposits of aquamarine are found in Brazil.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Lady Bird Johnson during the Johnson Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
