Physical DescriptionGold filigree brooch in the shape of Africa with the shape of Upper Volta superimposed. Filigree emanates from 12 flat gold wire volutes; hinged pin on back with hook catch.
Historical NoteThis brooch was given to President Lyndon Baines Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson by His Excellency Maurice Yameogo, President of the Republic of Upper Volta, and Mrs. Yameogo on March 29, 1965, during a state visit to Washington, D.C.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson and First Lady Lady Bird Johnson during the Johnson administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
