Physical Description
Physical DescriptionBrooch. Gold-tone donkey on hind legs in a boxing stance. Four rhinestones are in each ear, with a ruby-colored stone in its nose and in its eye. Attached at the back is a hinged pin with safety catch.
Historical NoteThis boxing donkey brooch was sent to Lady Bird Johnson by a constituent in November 1964. The donkey has long been the mascot for the Democratic Party.
Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
