Bas-relief letters above: "Gemini 5," on wagon: "8 days or bust" and around edge: "Cooper / Conrad." Reverse engraved "August 21-29, 1965." Hole at top with ring. Stamped "Sterling."
Historical NoteDuring the Gemini 5 space flight Col. Charles "Pete" Conrad and Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper carried medallions like these to give away after the completion of the mission. “Flown” artifacts refer to items that have traveled in space.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
