Physical Description
Physical DescriptionEarrings. A flower-shaped design of sapphires mounted in gold. A centered cabachon setting with two rows of petals surrounding it for a total of 21 gems per earring. The flower is attached to a single cabochon sapphire set on a screw-post backing by a twisted gold strip.
Historical NoteLady Bird Johnson received these sapphire earrings as part of a jewelry set in Thailand during the Johnsons’ trip through Asia in 1966.
Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
