Historical NoteThis cigarrette box was a gift from Chancellor and Mrs. Josef Klaus of Austria when they visited Washington D.C. on April 10, 1968. "Der neue Markt" translates to "The New Market," a historic square in Vienna.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
