Physical DescriptionApollo 8 Stamp First Day Cancellation. Image of LBJ being presented with mementos from the Apollo 8 crew. Two stamps adhered at the bottom: 6c "Apollo 8" stamp and 6c American Flag stamp. Postmarked at: Washington DC - Aug 7, 1970.
Historical NoteThis stamp was issued on August 7, 1970 to celebrate the Apollo 8 space mission. The man seen gifting a photo of "Earthrise" to President Johnson is astronaut Jim Lovell.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
