Physical DescriptionSlipper-shaped terra cotta oil lamp, blackened in areas from use. Inscribed on the exterior: "Jesus Christ the Victorious".
Historical NoteThis Byzantine-era oil lamp was given to President Lyndon B. Johnson by His Majesty Hussein I, King of the Hashemite, Kingdom of Jordan on April 14, 1964, during a state visit to Washington, D.C. The lamp is blackened from previous use and inscribed with "Jesus Christ the Victorious" on the exterior.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to the President, First Lady or member of the First Family during President Johnson's term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 20, 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
