Cachet text: "Lyndon Baines Johnson", "36th President of the United States", ""Inauguration Day", "January 20th, 1965". Stamp adhered at upper right: 5c American Flag in front of White House. Postmarked twice at: Washington D.C. - Jan 20, 1965 and Washington D.C - Jan 28, 1965. Addressed to : "Hon. Lyndon B. Johnson", "President of the U.S.", Washington, D.C.".
Historical NoteMany commemorative items were produced to celebrate the inauguration of President Johnson, including this First Day of Issue commemorative cover. It was postmarked on January 20, 1965, the day President Johnson took his Oath of Office.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
