Cachet text: "Official First Day Cover", "Malawi Independence Commemorative Issue", "6th July 1964". Four Malawi stamps adhered at upper right: 3d, 6d, 1'3, 2'6. Postmarked at: Independence Trade Fair Malawi - July 6, 1964.
Inscriptions and MarkingsSigned: "H. Kamuza Banda", "Philip", "[indecipherable]".
Historical NoteThis multi-colored post card is a first day cover stamp commemorating Malawi independence. Postmarked July 6, 1964, it is signed by President Banda and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
