Physical DescriptionNigerian First Day Cover Stamp Souvenir Sheet . The cachet on the sheet is a portrait of JFK, an image of Jacqueline Kenndy and her children at JFK's funeral, and the Nigerian flag. Cachet text: "President John F. Kennedy 1917-1963 Worked for Humanity", "First Day of Issue 27th August, 1964", "In Memoriam John Fitzgeral Kennedy 1917 - 1963 Who Dedicated His Life to the Promotion of Peace", "Nigeria". Four 5' JFK stamps at center. Postmarked at: Lagos - Aug 27, 1964.
Historical NoteThe world was shocked by the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and many nations produced memorial stamps to commemorate his life. This stamp set was sent to President Johnson by the Minister of Communications of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
