Cachet text: "St. Lawrence Seaway - 1959 Massena, N.Y.", "Connecting the Great Lakes Region with the sea - Through the cooperation of Canada and the United States". Stamp adhered at upper right: 4c St. Lawrence Seaway stamp. Postmarked at: Massena NY - June 26, 1959.
Historical NoteThis first day of issue envelope commemorating the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway was postmarked June 26, 1959 with a 4c St. Lawrence Seaway stamp.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
